GREAT MOVIES

Ever ask yourself why so many great films are set on the coast or where water meets land?

LOCAL HERO

THE BIRDS

THE FOG

JAWS

WHISKY GALORE

THE WICKER MAN  Beware of confusing the classic original with the truly dreadful 2006 remake.

FROM HERE TO ETERNITY In its day the symbolism was considered shocking.

VERTIGO Hitchcock’s masterpiece.

THE SOPRANOS OK, we know it’s not a movie, but these days the highest quality stuff is seen on television in series such as this.

REBECCA is another gem from Hitchcock. As in several of his films the shoreline seems a border with menace. You can watch the whole film here.

BRIGHTON ROCK The modern remake is ok too.

DOCTOR NO From Aphrodite to Bond

Boticelli: 'Birth of Aphrodite'

Boticelli: ‘Birth of Aphrodite’

CAPE FEAR (1991 version) Another good remake.

PLANET OF THE APES Whatver you think of the whole movie, this is  memorable scene – ironically doubly iconic.

DEATH IN VENICE

THE SEVENTH SEAL
